Note Edge in India, will go on sale in January 2015

note-edge-featureDuring the launch, Samsung had announced that it would treat the Galaxy Note Edge as a ‘limited edition concept device‘, but we’ve seen the device getting launched in almost all important markets. Now, it is being reported that the Note Edge might launch in India, where Samsung plans to maintain its lead in the country’s growing smartphone market. According to a report from Economic Times, Samsung might launch the Galaxy Note Edge in India in January 2015 with a price tag of INR 68,500 (~ $1,080). The device has already been launched in Korea, Japan, the US, the UK, and Germany. It is Samsung’s first smartphone with a curved edge screen, showing off the company’s technological prowess when it comes to smartphone displays.
It features a 5.6-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED display with curved edge, a quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, a 16-megapixel camera with OIS and 4K video recording, and 4G LTE connectivity. Earlier this year, Samsung launched 4G LTE variant of the Galaxy S5 after carriers started rolling out 4G networks in the country. Asim Warsi, Vice President for Mobile and IT at Samsung India said, “India has always performed amongst the best in the world when it comes to flagship sales. India has one of the best Note attachments, therefore it is important that every evolution of Note comes early on in India.
Update: Samsung has launched the Galaxy Note Edge in India with a price tag of INR 64,900 (~ $1023), which is lower than that of the earlier report. The Galaxy Note Edge will go on sale in India starting January 2015.

US ITC will investigate Nvidia after a complaint by Samsung

logo-samsung-retroish-featureThe US ITC (United States International Trade Agency) will start investigating Nvidia after Samsung filed complaints last month stating that the US-based GPU giant has infringed upon some of its patents covering graphics chip technology. Samsung’s complaint was a response to an earlier decision by the same court after a complaint by Nvidia against Samsung. These ITC complaints came after both the companies sued each other in federal district courts in Delaware and Virginia. David Shannon, chief administrative officer at Nvidia said, “This is typical legal ping pong.” Legal battles of these kinds are often fought and decided district courts, but filing a second complaint with ITC has turned out to be a favorite choice amongst firms these days. ITC can move faster than other civil courts courts and if it finds the other party guilty, it bans the import of infringing products into the US. “Nvidia remains focused on ensuring that we receive fair compensation from Samsung for using our technology in Galaxy phones and tablets,” Shannon said.
Earlier this year, Nvidia had filed lawsuits against Samsung and Qualcomm following an alleged infringement of seven patents related graphics chips such as unified shading, programmable shading, multithreaded processing on GPU, and the entire idea behind a standalone GPU, among others. Samsung is also working on its own of mobile GPU design, which will be used in its homegrown Exynos SoC for mobile devices.

Samsung SM-T116 could be a Galaxy Tab 3 Lite successor

Samsung-Logo-with-Galaxy-Tab_Logo-featureSamsung could be gearing up to launch a new 7-inch tablet in the coming weeks, as a 7-inch device with model number SM-T116 has recently made its way to Indian shores for testing. The model number suggests this device could be the Galaxy Tab 4 Lite, a possibility fueled by the very low import price of a single unit (Rs. 6,313, or around $99), which suggests that Samsung could be aiming for an even lower price than it did with the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite earlier this year.
For the specs, we can look towards the Geekbench database, which lists the SM-T116 with a Speadtrum sc8830 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, and Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Those are rather minimal specs that would match a ‘Lite’ device perfectly, though we will need more details to be able to paint a better picture of what the SM-T116 is.

What’s the big difference between a regular phone and a smartphone? Well, one has the basic needs of calling and text messaging covered, while the second is better for connecting to the internet and the use of other online tools. TripAdvisor is my favorite travel app. Sure there are many out there, but this app has provided me with so many good tips and fun and diverse walking tours that I never forget to download the app before visiting a new country or city. Some of the great services it offers, like in-app hotel reservation, must be done when connected to the internet, however it provides so much like restaurants recommendations, reviews and photos that my holidays are always great.

Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F) receiving another Android 5.0 Lollipop update in Poland

DSC00813-SSamsung just started officially rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop update to the Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F) in Europe, mainly Poland, two weeks ago. Today, the Korean giant has pushed yet another Lollipop update to Polish Galaxy S5 users, it’s mainly a stability and performance update. This update is probably an indication that Samsung is about to release Android 5.0 update in other European countries too. When dealing with major Android upgrades, Samsung usually beta tests its software in Poland or Germany, before releasing it to the masses.
To update your Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F) to the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop update, connect your device to your computer and use Samsung Kies 3. You won’t be able to update it via OTA, because Samsung has not yet pushed the new firmware to its FOTA servers. UPDATE: Now available via OTA! To download and install the firmware via FOTA, go to Settings > System > About Device > Software update > Update.
Firmware Details:

Get the Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update now! [updated: Galaxy S5 LTE-A is getting Android 5.0.1 soon, will the S5 be next?]

The Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Galaxy S5 has started to roll out. Samsung has worked at lightning pace to deliver Lollipop so quickly after it was first released – it would almost be rude not to install it! Find out here how you can get Android 5.0 on your Galaxy S5 right now. Update: Samsung is now working Android 5.0.1 Lollipop for the Galaxy S5 LTE-A (SM-G906S), and though this is a Korean-only device, it indicates that this version of Android is coming to the international and US variants of the S5. Check under the update section below for more details.

Update: Though the Galaxy S5 LTE-A is only available in Korea, Samsung has still decided to update the device to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop and is working on the final build right now. The update will affect the Galaxy S5 LTE-A the same way it does the Galaxy S5 and other Samsung phones when they eventually get the update. The 0.1 portion of the Android version includes some minor bug fixes from the first iteration of Android 5.0. Though Google hasn't officially said what these would be, the update will likely fix up problems like the automatic factory device reset or the video playback issues some devices with 5.0 were having. Read below for all the current Android 5.0 Lollipop info regarding the Galaxy S5.

Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 update

Sam Mobile broke the news that the Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F) has started to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update in Poland, paving the way for an imminent release in the rest of Europe. The best news? If you want to get your hands on the official firmware you can do so now! Just head here and follow the instructions.
We still don't know when the update will be hitting the US (it usually follows after Europe thanks to carrier certification hold-ups), but we're nonetheless mighty impressed that a Samsung device has been able get the update, with all the TouchWiz additions, just 31 days after the Lollipop code was officially released (putting even HTC's 90-day Advantage promises to shame).
Sam Mobile had already shown us a test build of Android 5.0 Lollipop on the Galaxy S5, so we knew it was well underway, but getting the update out at this speed is something of an epic move from Samsung, and it may have just won some of its disillusioned fans back.
We updated our Galaxy S5 to Android 5.0 Lollipop and you can see what it looks like below:

Sprint Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update

The folks over at the XDA Developers site have also been hard at work on an unofficial version of the Android 5.0 update for the Sprint Galaxy S5 which is available now. Before you start flashing it with Odin, please keep in mind that there could be a fair amount of bugs that still haven’t been ironed out. Another important thing to consider is that this will wipe all of the data on your phone, so make sure you back up your pictures and files etc before hand. The update is said to have most of the Android 5.0 Lollipop look and feel, however the sensors haven’t been fully tested.
If you aren’t keen on giving up your phone warranty, you can wait for Sprint to deliver the update OTA. It shouldn’t be too much longer considering carriers and OEMs are all in a mad race to get the update to phones as soon as possible.
For other Galaxy S5 models
For other Galaxy S5 variants (SM-G900I and SM-G900M - and more soon to follow), head over to the XDA Developers forum where another working version of Android 5.0 Lollipop is also currently in development. It's an early build, but most features are working (NFC and the camera seemingly the only two things which aren't). If you're eager to see what Lollipop will look like when it finally arrives on your device, head over there now and download the ROM.
Have you tried any of these Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop ROMS?
If you want to learn about the status of the Android 4.4.4 update for Galaxy S5, that info can be found below the break.

What about the Android 4.4.4 update for the Galaxy S5?

Samsung’s flagship device, the Galaxy S5, has been receiving the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update in the US for a little while now, firstly on Verizon. Verizon actually brought out a second update only a month after a large patch rolled out to devices on the same network. Sprint has now rolled out the Android 4.4.4 update for the Galaxy S5 over the air. Here's what you can expect from the latest S5 update from your carrier.

Galaxy S5 Sprint Android 4.4.4 KitKat update

After leaking last month, the final build of Android 4.4.4 KitKat is now rolling for the Sprint CMDA version of the Galaxy S5. As you know, the Galaxy S5 launched over six months ago with Android 4.4.2 and leapfrogged Android 4.4.3 entirely. While Sprint's support page says the update was released on September 24th there's still a shortage of people verifying that that they have actually received it, so Sprint may simply be trying to rewrite history (rather rather unsuccessfully). Nevertheless, the OTA is on its way, so keep an eye out. The update brings international VoWiFi, security patches, a HD voice icon and the full Android 4.4.4 KitKat suite of goodies.

Galaxy S5 Verizon Android updates

The Galaxy S5 update on Verizon has brought a wealth of improvements to the device, such as better music streaming connectivity and some UI changes in Memo and and Emergency Mode. It also updated some of the included software (bloatware) that comes with the device, like Message+ and Cloud. The latest patch seems to be a little less comprehensive, but early reports suggest there has been some minor interface changes to look out for and a bluetooth related fix.
Verizon then pushed out yet another update for the Galaxy S5, less than a week after the last, with build number KTU84P.G900VVRU1ANI2. The patch brings some extra tracking features to the S Health app, tweaks to enable VoLTE, and an option to turn off the Galaxy S5 camera shutter sound! If you were yet to download the previous update then it's likely you will jump straight to this latest version.

Galaxy S5 T-Mobile Android 4.4.2 KitKat update

Despite updating its Galaxy S4 variant to Android 4.4.4 recently, the latest KitKat update still hasn't appeared with T-Mobile's S5 device just yet; it still remains on 4.4.2.

Galaxy S5 AT&T Android 4.4.2 KitKat update

Like T-Mobile, AT&T users are still sitting on Android 4.4.2, although this carriers S5's did receive some minor updates a while back. Time is running out before units start seeing an official Lollipop release in December, let's hope AT&T can keep up!
Are you still keeping up with Galaxy S5 updates? Or are you now only interested in when it will receive Android Lollipop?

Samsung Says The Sprint Galaxy S5 Should Be Getting Its Android 4.4.4 OTA (G900PVPU1ANI4) Now

Samsung has been sending the somewhat overdue Android 4.4.4 update to its flagship devices for the last few weeks, and according to this support page, it's now the Sprint Galaxy S5's turn. The Sprint CDMA edition of the S5 should be receiving the latest stable build of Android now, though we haven't actually found any users who are getting it this morning. Given the way that US carriers tend to stagger the rollouts for just about everything, that isn't all that surprising. The page says it was released last week, but it has only been updated today.
s5 update
The Galaxy S5 launched with KitKat, and the Sprint variety has been running 4.4.2 since it launched back in April. While Samsung hasn't issued updates for 4.4.3, which includes a ton of behind-the-scenes improvements, it's all rolled up with the additional minor security patches in 4.4. According to the release notes for the Sprint model, the G900PVPU1ANI4 update also includes support for international VoWiFi - domestic Wi-Fi calling was added back in June. There's also an updated icon for Sprint's "HD Voice" promotional content.
We don't know how big the update will be, but the 4.4.2-4.4.4 jump is pretty sizeable, and Samsung releases are generally heavy in any case. Unless you're on an unlimited data plan, you'll want to download this one via Wi-Fi. As usual, anyone who's rooted or otherwise modified their phone may not be able to flash the update, and might lose root privileges if they try. If you see the G900PVPU1ANI4 update on your Sprint Galaxy S5, drop us a line in the comments.
